
uMgungundlovu Cannabis Park
- The uMgungundlovu Cannabis Park project is aimed at establishing a 400-hectare dry-land hemp farm, featuring a central processing facility for hemp products such as fibres, oils, and wellness products. This initiative focuses on cultivating industrial hemp, with off-take agreements already secured with seed suppliers and buyers, ensuring market viability.
- The project involves 10 identified Black commercial farmers, promoting inclusive participation in agriculture, and fosters partnerships with institutions like UKZN, ADA, and DUT. UMEDA (Umgungundlovu Municipality Economic Development Agency) coordinates the initiative.
- Currently in the pre-implementation phase, with a financial requirement of R100 million, and is expected to generate 400 jobs across farming, processing, and related sectors.
