uMgungundlovu Wine Project

  • The uMgungundlovu Wine Project aims to establish the Midlands as a premier wine destination in South Africa by developing a series of wine farms. This initiative will tap into the growing global interest in high-quality wines from unique regions, positioning the Midlands as a notable wine-growing area.

The project involves creating vineyards with distinctive terroir, supported by wine estates, tasting rooms, and tourism infrastructure to attract visitors. It will promote local economic development by encouraging investment in wine production, distribution, and tourism, while offering training and support to local farmers entering the wine industry.

Currently in the early stages, the project has completed concept proposals and is drafting a full business proposal. Financial requirement of R10 million is required to cover the initial planning, land preparation, and infrastructure development. The project, is expected to create 75 jobs initially, with more to follow as tourism grows.

In the long term, the uMgungundlovu Wine Project will help transform the Midlands into a premium wine region, driving economic development, job creation, and sustainable growth in agriculture and tourism.
