Midlands Capture Site Film Studio

  • The Midlands Capture Site Film Studio is a visionary project set to establish a world-class themed film studio at the historic Nelson Mandela Capture Site. This initiative aims to position the region as a key player in the global film industry by producing high-quality films with international appeal. The studio will not only enhance the storytelling of African narratives but also attract filmmakers from across the world, fostering cultural exchange and economic growth.
  • The project is currently in its development phase, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the uMgungundlovu Economic Development Agency (UMEDA) and the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission, along with key industry role-players. The concept design has been successfully completed, and efforts are underway to secure the required funding of R800 million to bring this ambitious project to life.
  • The project is expected to create over 100 jobs, providing employment opportunities in film production, set design, technical support, and various other sectors.
  • Situated under the uMngeni Municipality, the Midlands Capture Site Film Studio will serve as a beacon of economic development, talent cultivation, and cinematic excellence within the province and beyond.
